Mt. Shisha Pangma: Rising 8,012m above sea level at 85.7 degrees E and 28.3 degrees N, is located in central Himalaya and lies totally inside Tibet Located in Tibet, near Everest, Tibetans refer to Shishapangma as “The Big Grassy Field”.The 14th highest mountain in the world. Is only eight-thousand-er stretched out on Tibetan soil. It's considered one of the more accessible 8,000-meter peaks due to its relatively gentle slopes compared to other peaks of similar altitude. The lowest of the world's fourteen 8,000-meter peaks. This mountain came to exposure after the Chinese opened Tibet to the Western world in 1978 A.D. Until then it was unknown to the Western mountaineers. Shishapangma is an exquisite mountain that vaunts awe-striking vistas along with the Himalayan range. A straightforward climb and not technically demanding, an excellent mountain for climbers wanting to scale their first 8,000m. Peak without taking much risk. Shishapangma has two summits, the commonly climbed Central summit that the Chinese say is 8,013m (7,999m on the old map), and the summit, 8,027 m (26,335ft). Our Shishapangma Expedition commences with an overland route drive from Tibet Border to Kerung and returns the same route from Kerung Border (Rasuwa District ) to Kathmandu.
- Climbing any mountain especially 8000m above is tough but highly rewarding as well. So, do prepare yourself Psychologically and Physically to withstand all possible hazards that may come across your path during the mountaineering journey.
- The expedition is EXTREMELY Challenging but worth it. Before the summit push, we will have enough time at the Base Camp where our supremely talented climbing Sherpa guide will train you very well to be in the Himalayas by providing you with all technical know-how and techniques.
- The summit lies at a higher altitude and can cause altitude sickness to anyone attempting the summit push. But proper acclimatization, enough Oxygen which will be carried and reserved at higher camps for emergency use, and support/assistance by our high altitude climbing Sherpa Guide will help you go through to reach the summit of your dream mountain. Above the higher camps, we will always have extra bottles of oxygen in case of emergencies. This is why one must go on an expedition to any of the 7 thousand before heading to any 8000m. This will not only help you gain experience in the high altitude but also familiarize you with all the gears and equipment while handling extremely cold temperatures, gaining great crampon skills on and on the rock, snow, ice, rappelling with a pack on, and using ascenders and jumars on a fixed-line. Along with tolerance at a high altitude, you need strength, endurance, and strong cardiovascular conditioning.
NOTE: Prioritize your training efforts with the following techniques assuming you are in good health and injury-free;
01. Climbing Conditioning: Uphill climbing with a backpack, walking and staircase climbing
02. Strength training for lower body and core
03. Cardiovascular Training: Include both aerobic and anaerobic workouts with and without pack-weight
04. Flexibility Training: Include stretches for overall body

Route Camps:
Advanced Base Camp (5,600m/18,375 ft): The base camp and advanced base camp is located in the biggest area of Tibetan plateau. From this plateau you will have amazing views of the Himalaya. Shishapangma is usually climbed via the Northwest face and the North ridge, these are the standard commercial routes aka the normal climbing routes. The north ridge route is considered the easiest route to the summit of Shishapangma. Xtreme Climbers supporting crew will set up ABC for almost 18 to 21 days. Most high altitude climbers spend 75% of their time at base camp during long expeditions. We Xtreme Climbers provides a personal Tent to each of our valuable clients as well for our Climbing Sherpa Guise and helping crew which becomes your private retreat, The Shower and Toilet tent is available at your convenience. a Dining tent becomes the common area for our members and supporting crew. Before climbing you are encouraged to participate in a Puja ceremony for blessing and good luck.
Camp 1 (6,400m/21,000 ft) 5 hrs: Camp 1 (6,400m) Camp one, a great location to have the view of sunrise and sunset. It is located on a flat snowfield with plenty of space for Camp. This becomes a deposit camp that allows supplies to be ferried up to the higher camps. From ABC it takes approximately 3 hours to reach the crampons point, once on the glacier it is another 3 hours to reach camp 1. After camp one we fix about 22-30m and 20M of rope on a 55º slope.
Camp 2 (7,100m/23,300 ft) 4 hrs: Camp 2 is always fixed at about 7,100-7,150m. Right out of camp 1 to the climbing is flat for almost 30 minutes, after that you encounter fixed lines at 40-45º. Generally the climbing from camp 1 camp 2 is safe but we advise our climbers and climbing Sherpa guide to climb on fixed ropes 100% of the time of this section of the route. It's because in between there are some big crevasses which can be difficult to see because it's covered by snow. From camp two you will be able to view Langtang-re if the weather is clear.
Camp 3 (7,500m/24,600ft) 3 hrs: Climbing from camp 2 to camp 3 is strenuous. For about One hour you will ascend 165m of fixed line on a 30º snow slope. From here you continue up for another Three hours to the stair ridge, this is now just below the central summit ridge. From this point continue for a half hour to a col, or Camp 3. This space is accommodating for 10-12 Two Man Tents. Here you will rest from 15:00-11:00 before starting the push summit.
Summit (8,013m/26289ft) 14 hrs: Steep ascent on a Snow and Rock ridge to a snow pinnacle that is the false central summit. Most climbers finish here but the real summit is 22m higher which is a snowy knife-edge ridge. (The ridge would be very risky in bad conditions). From the summit point of central Sishapangma the surrounding view of Cho Oyu, Everest and the number of 7000m satellite peaks is tremendous. Most climbers leave for the summit push at about 11:00 and reach the summit between 05:00-07:00 am. From camp 2 to the summit almost 100% of the climbing route requires climbing on fixed rope. 97% of climbers descend down to camp 3 from the central summit. If you are considering traversing the knife edge ridge we recommend that the forecast has a 0% chance of wind, snow or low visibility.
