Xtreme Climbers Treks & Expeditions successfully conducted a 4-Day / 3-Night Rock Climbing Program at Hattiban Rock Climbing Area from 15 April to 18 April 2026. This professionally designed short-duration program was tailored for a solo climber seeking focused technical training and practical rock climbing experience prior to a high-altitude trekking objective.

Located approximately 1.5 hours south of Kathmandu, Hattiban is one of Nepal’s premier outdoor climbing destinations, offering well-bolted limestone routes across a wide range of grades, making it ideal for both skill development and progression.

Program Objectives
The core objectives of this program were to:

  • Build a strong foundation in rock climbing techniques
  • Develop a clear understanding of rope systems and safety protocols
  • Provide hands-on experience in a natural rock environment
  • Enhance confidence through progressive, guided climbing sessions

Day-by-Day Technical Progression

Day 01 | 15 April 2026 – Arrival & Transfer to Climbing Area
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, the participant was welcomed by our team and transferred directly to Hattiban. After a short rest and refreshment, the program commenced with:

  • Comprehensive equipment inspection (personal and technical gear)
  • Introduction to climbing harness, belay devices, helmets, and rope systems
  • Detailed safety briefing and site orientation
  • Overview of rock types, route grading, and climbing ethics

The day concluded with practical sessions covering:

  • Essential knots (figure-8, clove hitch, stopper knots)
  • Introduction to top-rope climbing systems

Day 02 | 16 April 2026 – Fundamental Skills & Movement Techniques
The second day focused on establishing strong technical fundamentals:

  • Top-rope belaying techniques with clear communication protocols
  • Climbing movement fundamentals: balance, footwork, and body positioning
  • Efficient use of body weight and center of gravity
  • Practice on easy to moderate routes to build confidence

Additional training included:

  • Route reading and line selection
  • Understanding rock features and efficient movement flow

Day 03 | 17 April 2026 – Advanced Techniques & Protection Systems
As the participant gained confidence, the training progressed to more advanced elements:

  • Introduction to anchor systems and anchor assessment
  • Rope management and controlled lowering techniques
  • Familiarization with natural protection placements, including:
    • Nuts (stoppers)
    • Cams (where terrain allowed)

Practical exercises included:

  • Evaluating rock quality and the correct placement direction
  • Understanding load distribution and safety considerations

Climbing sessions progressed to slightly more challenging routes, allowing application of learned techniques in real climbing scenarios.


Day 04 | 18 April 2026 – Skill Consolidation & Program Completion
The final day focused on reinforcing and refining all acquired skills:

  • Review and improvement of belay and climbing techniques
  • Supervised independent climbing sessions
  • Emphasis on efficiency, safety, and confidence

The program concluded with a professional debrief, including:

  • Performance feedback
  • Recommendations for future climbing progression, especially for alpine and high-altitude objectives
