Nepal's Annapurna region has long been renowned as a haven for trekkers, with its stunning landscapes drawing enthusiasts from around the globe. Nestled between the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains, Mohare Danda stands at an elevation of 3300 meters, offering a serene escape near Ghorepani Poon Hill.
The Mohare Danda Trek, although less traversed, presents a charming opportunity to explore the Nepalese countryside and immerse oneself in the remote lifestyle and culture of the locals. Commencing on the outskirts of Pokhara, a popular tourist hub, the trek entails a four to five-hour drive to the trailhead, meandering through picturesque villages, farmlands, paper-making plants, and local cheese factories. The trek allows for ample exploration time at various stops along the route. Despite its lesser-known status, the Mohare Danda Trek offers a refreshing alternative for those seeking solitude amidst breathtaking vistas, away from the hustle and bustle of crowded tourist destinations. Located within the Annapurna Conservation Area, no trekking permit is required, making it an accessible choice for adventurers.
Atop Mohare's vantage point, one can revel in the sweeping vistas of the Himalayas, featuring prominent peaks like Dhaulagiri (8,172m), Nilgiri (7,061m), Annapurna South (7,219m), Annapurna I (8,091m), and the iconic Machhapuchre (6,997m), whose ascent is prohibited. Nestled amidst untamed wilderness and serenity, the community lodge offers a tranquil retreat. Guests can relish the mesmerizing spectacle of sunrise and sunset casting their hues upon the majestic mountains, while the night unveils a breathtaking panorama of stars against the mountain backdrop, visible from the lodge's windows. In this secluded enclave, devoid of other local residences, lies Nepal's highest wireless internet relay station. Serving as a vital conduit for internet connectivity, particularly to remote communities, the station facilitates access to educational and healthcare resources in schools and clinics across the region. Spending the night at this community-based lodge promises a unique and enriching experience.
For those craving a genuine adventure, this trek promises an unforgettable experience of rural mountain life combined with awe-inspiring scenery. While relatively more manageable, some sections of the trek may pose challenges, requiring adequate preparation.
